Electronic Commercial Sensor Faucet

The most prominent and important feature of any bathroom is the faucet and when it comes to upgrading any bathroom, this should be the first consideration. Traditional faucets are normally found in commercial bathrooms but the relatively new technology of touchless faucets would be a better option. If the bathroom doesn't already have this type of faucet, also called electronic or sensor faucet, the faucet is the first thing that should be changed. The touchless faucet is, as the name suggests, "touchless"; you do not need to touch the faucet in order to get the water flowing. It operates using presence sensors that detect hands when brought under the sensor, and turns the water on automatically.

Sensor Faucets Types

The touchless faucets, just like the traditional faucets, are available in a range of colors and materials. Some of these are;

  • Brass and chrome coated faucets

These faucets are made up of zinc and coated with brass. While the zinc surface itself is not really corrosion-resistant, the brass coating helps reduce risk of rusting or corrosion. However, as the brass could itself erode away and expose the zinc to corrosion, it could cause hygiene problems.

  • Plastic sensor faucets

Faucets made of plastic are relatively cheaper and therefore more common than the other types. The problem however, is that plastic is more likely to break and get damaged than other materials.

  • Stainless steel sensor faucets

Stainless steel is known for its resistance against corrosion and also gives a shiny appearance. So long as the steel remains unscratched, it will remain shiny and corrosion-free. Commercial bathrooms can best make use of these faucets because of their appearance and less need of repair.

  • Solid brass touchless faucets

Brass is known for its resistance to rusting and this feature makes them ideal for public bathrooms. In places where the water is considered "hard" and the risk of rusting is greater than normal, these faucets can be installed. In this way, these faucets can reduce the need of repair or replacement.

Public Restroom Sensor Faucets Features:

The only difference between an electronic, touchless faucet and a traditional faucet is that the former has the additional features of sensors and valves. Other than these, the other features are the same.

  • Sensor Faucet Spout

The part of a faucet that appears above the surface and carries all other features is the spout. This is significant in aesthetics of the bathroom.

  • The Sensor

The sensor is a presence sensor (not a motion sensor) that detects the presence of hands under the faucet. In automatic faucets, the sensor is located at the base of the spout. This sensor will activate the valve to allow the water to flow when it will detect the presence of hands.

  • Solenoid valve

The solenoid valve is a rubber disk that is solenoid controlled. When opened, the valve allows the water to flow. When the sensor is activated, the valve is opened and the water begins to flow.

  • Automatic Faucets Power source

A dry-cell battery or an AC transformer is used to run the sensor, the valve and the other electronics.

Hands Free Faucet Benefits:

  • Water conservation

Particularly in commercial settings, water wastage is a problem when it comes to the use of traditional faucets. The automatic faucets help overcome this problem because the water will automatically turn off when the hands are no longer under the spout.

  • Minimization of contamination

A risk when using a traditional faucet is contamination through contact with the faucet which many others have touched. The purpose of washing hands is destroyed with traditional faucets because touching the faucet to turn the water off could contaminate your hands. By eliminating the need to make contact with the faucet, the electronic faucets reduce risk of contamination.

Where they can be installed
These faucets are ideal for use in commercial settings and public bathrooms like those in restaurants, hotels, gyms or other such public places. This is so mainly because risk of contamination and water wastage are most common in commercial settings and touchless faucets eliminate these problems.

Durability and ease of use
Reduced contact with the faucet makes damage and consequently need to repair less likely. These faucets are thus more durable than other traditional faucets. With no need to operate a tap, these are also easier to use than other faucets.
